Are you Certified? Are your Colleagues?

InsideNGO recently polled the HR membership on the topic of professional HR certification.  While the Society for Human Resource Management/Human Resource Certification Institute are the most well-known certifying bodies, there are other players in the field - World at World, ASTD, and and CEBS, to name a few.  But is certification important in the international NGO community?

We asked members what certifications they held, and what are they looking for in the future.  From the 60 responses we received, members reported having the following certifications

Of those who did not currently hold a professional certification, almost 18% (11 respondents) are planning to pursue certification in the future.  Just under 20% of respondents (12 in total), though, state that they do not hold and are not interested in pursuing certification.

What are your thoughts on certification?  If you are certified, as HRCi asks - where have your letters taken you?  Do you think that certification fits the needs of HR employees in the international NGO community?  Are there specific topics that are important to the community that the PHRs don't address?
