So what do the  creative and resourceful recruiters have in their toolkits? Attendees at the 2012 InsideNGO Annual Conference learned from recruiters: Laura Retzler (FHI360) and Freda Green (CARE) that Linked In is a MUST .

Linked In has some Cool Tools to take advantage of … here are a few:

  • Look at whose Checking Your Organization Out – if appropriate add them your network.
  • On Your Organization tab Select Profiles of Similar Companies – search for potential candidates at similar organizations
  • Linked In Updates include free ads, articles, presentations, all sent to your email so you decide when to check them out
  • Resume Posting

Sourcing Tips…

  • Build Your Network: ensure your profile is 100% complete to be included in search results, attract new contacts, and expand your network
  • Join Groups & Search for former colleagues. Example health related NGOs may join the Global Health Council group or USAID recipients may join the Chief of Party Exchange
  • Buy a basic inmail package in expand your options for reaching potential candidates
  • Go to similar company sites and find candidates
  • Have hiring manager share their profile with you and connect with their relevant connections
