Hello all! We wanted to share an upcoming event from Peace Direct and the Movement for Community Led Development. NOTE:  This event is only open to organizations based in the Majority World (traditionally referred to as the Global South). If you are based in the Minority World, please share this link with colleagues who are based in the Majority World.

Dear colleagues and champions of community-led development,

The Movement for Community-led Development (MCLD) and Peace Direct invite the participation of all local and community-based organizations from the Majority World (generally referred to as the Global South)  in a special meeting with the USAID team on July 27, 2023. The meeting, Closing the Loop on the 50% Metric, is an opportunity to hear how our collective feedback shaped the indicators and practices of USAID's Localization Progress Report released in June 2023.

The Localization Progress Report shares both the progress USAID has made on direct funding to local organizations and the indicators the agency has created to measure how communities are being put in the driver's seat. This report is currently only in English but we are advocating for it to be translated into various languages to ensure inclusivity.

MCLD and Peace Direct are committed to ensuring that there is a direct line of communication between local and community-based organizations and USAID. In January 2023, we invited a team from USAID to hear feedback from CBOs and local organizations on the commitment to put communities in the driver's seat. Many of you shared your feedback on the practices USAID needs to change or adopt in order to work with local organizations and make their funding more locally and community-led. We then circulated a survey that gathered responses in English, French, and Spanish. In the spring, we distilled your collective wisdom back to USAID through a report and quick analysis of survey results.

This 90-minute conversation will be in English and simultaneous translation will be offered in, French, and Spanish alongside ASL interpretation. If you have specific language requirements, please reach out to Sera Bulbul <sera.bulbul@mcld.org>. We are committed to making the consultation as inclusive and accessible as possible.
